History

Since the early days of the Model 1000, Nakamichi had set the standard for Cassette Deck design and quality.

In the UK, a joint-venture company was established to promote and sell the products. Nakamichi B&W UK Ltd ensured that the quality of its products was matched by the quality of its service.

Paul Wilkins, MD of the company since its inception is a believer in providing excellence in all aspects of business and this helped ensure that the Nakamichi name became legendary in the UK.

In 1996, it was announced from Tokyo that the company was withdrawing from the domestic Hi-Fi market in Europe to concentrate on its computer peripherals business.

Nakamichi B&W UK Ltd was closed as there were no products to sell, but Paul was always commited to the brand and continued to look after the customers under the banner of Nakamichi Service.

Paul Wilkins is pictured here with Niro Nakamichi on a visit to the company's Kodaira Heaquarters in Toyko in 1986.

In February 1999, Nakamichi re-launched in Europe.

The company had been taken over by the Grande Group and new funds had been provided, allowing Ted Nakamichi to continue designing innovative Hi-Fi products.
